Apprenda to Present Enterprise Platform-as-a-Service Technology for Government Agencies at NY Innovates 2013

Three Sessions to Address IT Infrastructure Challenges for Government, Private Enterprises

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y., Dec. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Apprenda, the leader in enterprise Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), today announced that the company will present three sessions at NY Innovates 2013, a collaborative effort of the New York State Office of Information Technology Services and the New York State Department of Health. The event will take place Dec. 17-20 at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.

The conference comes on the heels of significant momentum in the health industry for Apprenda. Apprenda recently announced that McKesson is using Apprenda's enterprise PaaS to transform the company's IT department into a hybrid-friendly, flexible environment that allows McKesson to build applications faster than ever. The company also announced its recent Series C funding in November and has seen great adoption of its enterprise PaaS by organizations ranging from JP Morgan Chase to Memorial Sloan-Kettering.

Apprenda CEO Sinclair Schuller, a Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute alumna, will kick off the conference with the keynote session on the hybrid cloud and the world of government IT on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 9:00 a.m. EST. Matt Ammerman, Apprenda co-founder and vice president of client services, and Ed Sprenger, senior software developer, will lead sessions throughout the conference as well. Apprenda executives will present:

Keynote Address: Hybrid Cloud & the Government IT Revolution

DATE:

Tuesday, Dec. 17 from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. EST

SPEAKER:

Sinclair Schuller, CEO, Apprenda

OVERVIEW:

The world's largest companies and governments are being tasked with an extraordinary challenge: To become more efficient in their IT practices while writing the modern innovation that is cloud computing. Seemingly at odds, the idea that you can spend less money on your IT infrastructure while achieving new levels of innovation in how you build and leverage software are perfectly compatible. This keynote will walk you through how the world of government and IT has changed how the expectations and pressures have increased, and how government IT is the most likely candidate to take advantage of new revolutions in cloud computing to succeed.

SESSION:

Workshop: Unified Datacenter with Hybrid Cloud and Platform as a Service

DATE:

Tuesday, Dec. 17 from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. EST

SPEAKER:

Matt Ammerman, co-founder and vice president of client services, Apprenda

OVERVIEW:

Just as private enterprises and government agencies are realizing the amazing potential of building and delivering services in the cloud, the idea of hybrid cloud appears. What is hybrid cloud? What are the reasons, technical and otherwise, that hybrid cloud exists? What types of apps run on a hybrid cloud?  In this workshop we'll explore the life of a software developer in a hybrid, or unified, datacenter environment by creating, deploying, and scaling a real world application.

SESSION:

Ignite Talk: Transitioning to New Programming Approaches in Business Software

DATE:

Wednesday, Dec. 18 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. EST

SPEAKER:

Ed Sprenger, senior software developer, Apprenda

OVERVIEW:

At Apprenda, we recently transitioned from Java to Scala for future development of our JVM-based components, and this decision presented serious challenges to our team. This talk will cover some of the reasons why we did so, some of the benefits and difficulties of the decision, and examine the greater picture of how and why developers have historically adopted newer languages and idioms in spite of the costs of doing so.

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing.
