Coalfire Federal Appoints Nick Son as Managing Director of Washington, D.C. Office

Coalfire, an independent information technology governance, risk and compliance (IT GRC) firm, today announced that Nick Son has joined the Coalfire Federal division of Coalfire Systems, Inc. as managing director of the Washington, D.C. office.

Son will oversee Coalfire Federal’s growing client base of commercial service providers and government agencies seeking to adopt federal requirements or manage cloud strategy. A 20-year veteran of IT, information security and technology risk management, Son will work with Coalfire’s leadership team to expand federal advisory and assessment services (FedRAMP, FISMA, DIACAP) to the increasing number of commercial service providers hosting government data, and to government agencies seeking expertise to manage cloud contracts.

“We are seeing an explosive demand for our services, and Nick’s experience and proven leadership will streamline our expansion,” said Coalfire Federal EVP, Tom McAndrew. “Nick understands the government procurement process and has the expertise to grow Coalfire Federal. I am pleased to welcome Nick to the team.”

Son has led IT audits and security-consulting services of large federal agencies and commercial clients specializing in cloud computing, third-party service provider oversight, security management and continuous control monitoring.

Before joining Coalfire, Son held a leadership position in Ernst & Young’s (EY) federal group and led the IT audits to FISMA and FISCAM for the Departments of Health and Human Services, Veterans Affairs, and Defense. In addition, he served as the EY FISMA and FedRAMP subject matter expert.

Son noted, “Coalfire has a solid reputation in Washington, D.C. as a trusted partner for providing audit, advisory and assessment services to commercial service providers and government agencies. This is an exciting position to accept.”
