VMware Expands vCloud Hybrid Service(TM) to Europe

VMware to Rollout vCloud Hybrid Service in the United Kingdom (UK); New Hybrid Cloud Management Tools and Application Marketplace Also Announced

BARCELONA, SPAIN -- (Marketwired) -- 10/15/13 -- Today at VMworld® 2013 Europe, VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW), the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, announced that it plans to bring VMware vCloud® Hybrid Service™ to the UK, with the first data center location in Slough. In addition, VMware announced new hybrid cloud management capabilities and the vCloud Hybrid Service Application Marketplace. VMware will offer a private beta of vCloud Hybrid Service in the UK in Q4, with general availability planned in Q1 2014.

VMware vCloud Hybrid Service, built on VMware vSphere®, enables customers to extend the same applications, networking, management, operations and tools across both on-premises and off-premises environments. The UK expansion demonstrates VMware's commitment to expand its infrastructure as a service (IaaS) footprint internationally and provide European customers with the fastest path to cloud.

"The UK represents one of the largest IT markets in Europe, and VMware is committed to providing customers with a local, in-country public cloud which will enable them to extend their current data centers and deploy new cloud-native applications," said Bill Fathers, senior vice president and general manager, Hybrid Cloud Services Business Unit, VMware. "This is the first significant milestone in our commitment to deliver cloud services in Europe. VMware vCloud Hybrid Service is growing quickly in the U.S., and this expansion addresses UK and European data locality, privacy, security and sovereignty challenges."

"We have to be able to respond quickly to client requests," said Angus Gregory, CEO of Biomni, a vCloud Hybrid Service customer and provider of IT service catalog and request fulfillment solutions based in London. "With vCloud Hybrid Service and our longtime IT partner Computacenter, Biomni can create environments in the hybrid cloud that are identical to our internal platform and seamlessly move workloads with complete confidence. The service enables Biomni to not only deliver a better quality and more responsive service for our clients and strategic partner Computacenter, but also allows us to grow more rapidly."

vCloud Hybrid Service Online Marketplace
With access to 3,800 pre-qualified applications and rich online resources, the new vCloud Hybrid Service Online Marketplace provides a platform where customers can discover, download, test-drive and buy solutions for vCloud Hybrid Service. Customers can now find and deploy listings offered by VMware, buy critical software as a service (SaaS) solutions on vCloud Hybrid Service, find thousands of vCloud Hybrid Service virtual appliances, and read guidelines and best practices for bringing their own licenses to vCloud Hybrid Service.

Integration of VMware Hybrid Cloud Management™ Solutions
VMware is announcing new integrations between vCloud Hybrid Service and hybrid cloud management solutions to add to its integration with vSphere Web Client™, vCloud Application Director™, Hyperic® and Configuration Manager™:

  • VMware vSphere Web Client - VMware will release a new plug-in in December that will allow administrators to directly manage vCloud Hybrid Service using a browser and the vSphere web client.
  • VMware vCloud® Automation Center™ 5.2 and 6.0 - vCloud Hybrid Service is certified as fully compatible with vCloud Automation Center 5.2 and 6.0.

With these expanded integrations, VMware allows customers to extend their existing management tools into the cloud, providing an integrated IT environment across private data centers and the cloud. VMware vCloud Hybrid Service allows customers to use their existing investments, processes, and expertise to accelerate their time to value and lower their cost of ownership.
