First TIA 2013 Keynotes Announced: Top Execs from Major ICT Companies, Policymakers, and Leading Cloud and Data Users Will Discuss Future Plans for the Network

The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today announced Keynote speakers for TIA 2013 – the organization’s flagship Conference on the “Future of the Network.” TIA 2013, which will be held October 7-10 in Washington, D.C., will bring together strategists, thought leaders, technologists and policymakers to focus on mobility, broadband capacity, and the information and communications technology (ICT) industry value chain.

Over three-and-a-half days, TIA 2013 will feature C-level roundtable discussions, interactive conversations and presentations by more than 200 ICT executives, including the following keynotes announced today:

TIA 2013 will explore disruption in the marketplace, best practices, trends, and changing business models, in a format designed to help companies succeed. The event is centered around six tracks and will include 10 pre-conference workshops, a CTO Roundtable, a “Women in ICT” Breakfast, a Solutions Zone, and a Policy Day. A broad range of network-centric topics will be covered, including the all-IP network transition, cloud computing, cybersecurity, data center optimization, environmental regulation, FirstNet/public safety plans, global supply chain, government procurement reform, higher education, M2M, m-health, role of media, software-defined networking, spectrum, and more.

“With exponential growth fueled by mobility, video content and applications, the ICT industry is facing tremendous disruption,” said TIA President Grant Seiffert. “TIA 2013 will give companies actionable ways to take advantage of opportunities and navigate challenges. We’re thrilled that leading visionaries will contribute to this conversation.”

Seiffert continued, “With the volume of Internet content – especially video – expected to double by 2017, broadband networks are challenged to keep up with customer expectations. By engaging our industry in meaningful conversations about strategy, technology and policy, TIA 2013 will focus on alleviating that stress.”

Additional keynote speakers will be announced in the near future. Registration will open shortly. Members of the media are invited to attend TIA 2013. When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...

If a machine can invent, does this mean the end of the patent system as we know it? The patent system, both in the US and Europe, allows companies to protect their inventions and helps foster innovation. However, Artificial Intelligence (AI) could be set to disrupt the patent system as we know it. This talk will examine how AI may change the patent landscape in the years to come. Furthermore, ways in which companies can best protect their AI related inventions will be examined from both a US and...
