The U.S. government's Federal Trade Commission's long list of responsibilities includes handling consumer fraud complaints, the National Do Not Call Registry for marketers and iden-tity theft cases. Until recently, the FTC's information technology systems handled these different types of complaints separately without communicating with one another. But that all changed when Bluedog, a systems integrator and software developer based in Dublin, Ireland, helped bring to fruition an SOA (service-oriented architecture) that modernized the FTC's CIS (consumer information system). The $1.2 mil- lion upgrade involved bringing open standards and a Web-based architecture to the core system. Now, with cloud capabilities "baked in," the once-radical idea of SOA as a means to de-couple services from applications means big savings, for government and commercial.
Tom Termini provides expertise in the areas of cloud and service-oriented architecture (SOA) strategy, enterprise architecture, application architecture, data modeling, integration analysis, architecture of platforms, data center planning, and COTS product analysis and systems integration surrounding the suite of front- and back-office applications, including CRM, Cloud infrastructure, portals, case management, web services, and other technologies. He designs and blueprints cloud architectures and J2EE n-tier solutions.
Mr Termini creates architectural transitioning and sequencing plans to guide the transformation to SOA and assist in building private and public clouds. Mr Termini, over two decades, has recruited and managed targeted technical and architectural project teams, independently in a multi-vendor environment. Before that, he was a systems/solutions architect, and a chief system engineer — having engaged with the development of systems from end to end, learning first-hand what works and what does not, with architectural patterns.
Tom is a founder and managing director of Bluedog Inc. (US), a software-as-a-service provider located in Washington, DC and Dublin, Ireland. Tom has been a Java/Objective-C developer and cloud architect (Apple developer since 1989), working with clients such as the World Bank, US government agencies, VW of America, Lockheed Martin, Allied Irish Bank, and others.
