RESTON, VA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/17/12 -- Appian, the market leader in modern business process management (BPM) software, today announced that General Services Administration has granted a major business process management application, built on Appian Cloud, Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) Moderate Authorization and Accreditation. Appian Cloud is a key component of the application built on Amazon Web Services. The GSA's investment in certifying the application will make it easier for other federal agencies to attain FISMA Moderate Authority to Operate (ATO) designation for their Appian Cloud solutions.
In 2010, Appian Cloud was accredited with FISMA Low by the U.S. Dept. of Education. The GSA awarded the FISMA Moderate designation based on an additional set of even stricter controls than those employed for FISMA Low, covering the application's Security Assessment Report, System Security Plan, and Plan of Action and Milestones together with the Contingency Plan, and Contingency Plan Test Report. The assessment was performed under the Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002 (FISMA) framework for managing information security for all information systems used or operated by a U.S. federal government agency or by a contractor or other organization on behalf of a federal agency.
"The federal government's Cloud-First policy has driven great interest in Appian Cloud from agencies like the GSA looking to drive improved constituent services, increased transparency, reduced cost and accelerated time to market," said Matthew Calkins, President and CEO of Appian. "Appian's investment in complying with FISMA Moderate assures all federal agencies that Appian Cloud is a secure and reliable approach to process solutions in the cloud."
Appian Cloud, built on Amazon Web Services and utilizing the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), is a complete BPM suite available in the cloud as an on-demand Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering. It provides the reliability, security and speed of deployment required to support comprehensive process solutions via a subscription model.
Teresa Carlson, Vice President of Worldwide Public Sector, Amazon Web Services, stated, "Appian is providing enterprise class solutions to the federal government utilizing AWS and these solutions continue to demonstrate the impact of cloud computing for the federal customer. We are very proud of the GSA Authority to Operate that has been granted to Appian for this business process management application. AWS is dedicated to supporting our partners' and customers' stringent security and compliance requirements. We look forward to our continued work with Appian on their long-term cloud initiatives."
