OpenRFP.net Plugs Canada's Innovation Gap

New portal launches to translate Government procurement into new business ventures

Toronto - Canada has been awarded a degrading 'D for Innovation', fundamentally because the Canadian IT industry simply isn't inventing enough. Insufficient funding and insufficient support for business start-ups has resulted in a huge innovation gap in Canada. First this means the Canadian economy isn't being developed as vigorously as it should be, and secondly, it also means the Canadian Government buyers aren't spending enough with local Canadian businesses.

"Many Canadian entrepreneurs and small businesses would love to be able to win Government contracts, but they lack the scale to play at this level," said Neil McEvoy, Founder, OpenRFP.net. "They're either too small to meet the requirements, can't fulfil the entire proposal by themselves or they can't compete against the international IT giants. This means in many cases that foreign firms end up sending millions of Canadian tax dollars out of the country."

OpenRFP.net is a new 'Innovations Marketplace' portal that uses social media to pro-actively find and match solution partners to meet the requirements of Government RFP's, providing many businesses with the opportunity to bid and win Government contracts that they wouldn't normally have access to. OpenRFP.net is also a powerful hot-housing environment where RFP's are used as 'innovation blueprints' for clients who want to develop new products and start-up ventures.

The services provided by OpenRFP.net fill the innovation funding gap simply by linking existing Government procurement to the venture incubation process, in essence leveraging it as a new source of seed funding that can do more to grow new businesses, without Government adding any new funds or programs.

Within just days of launching, OpenRFP.net has already validated this model, identifying and supporting development of an exciting new Cloud computing technology through meeting the needs documented in a recent RFP from Elections Canada for their web hosting requirements.

An early participant in OpenRFP.net is Esotera Storage Systems "Esotera Storage Systems is a participating start-up like many others in Canada," said Tom Chalker, Esotera's CEO. "We have market-leading technology innovations but fast-tracking support and financing is not easily accessible. Winning such a bid would not only provide the necessary seed funding to further develop the product, it would also furnish our business with a reference case study that makes it possible to sell to other Governments for global expansion.

About OpenRFP.net
OpenRFP.net provides a innovation platform to develop Canadian ideas in to multi-million dollar businesses. On OpenRFP.net RFP's are used as innovation specifications', blueprints for inventing new technologies and start-up ventures, that are necessary to fulfil Government requirements.
