Another Business Application Moves to the Cloud: Video Conferencing

Nefsis Announces New Servers in India, Cites Worldwide Service, Millions of Conferencing Minutes and Customers Spanning 24 Countries as Proof-Points for Moving to the Cloud

The phrase cloud computing generally refers to shared resources such as servers, hardware and software that are provided on-demand over the Internet. A key underpinning is the distribution of workload processing across multiple servers -- the "cloud" -- thus making cloud computing a generational improvement over centralized client/server and mainframe computing prevalent in earlier decades. In addition to being a catchy name and delivery model for IT services, cloud computing offers substantial business and technical benefits, too. The benefits may include performance, scalability, and the simplicity and reduced maintenance of buying complex applications as a simple online service. Google and Salesforce.com (CRM) are well known examples highlighting performance and simplicity. For product categories such as video conferencing, there is the elimination of large, up-front capital expenses, too.
