Fresh from its acquisition of 3PAR for $2.35 billion, HP Sunday afternoon was reported close to buying ArcSight for around $1.5 billion by the Wall Street Journal.
That would be something like a $300 million premium on ArcSight’s market cap lately.
The paper wasn’t sure of the per-share price but heard ArcSight, which closed at $35.10 Friday, was asking $42 a share. It’s supposedly been looking to sell itself to one of the big tech companies.
ArcSight, which monitors corporate networks for suspicious activity, earned $28.4 million on revenue of $181.4 million, up 33%, in the fiscal year ended April 30.
The 451 Group thinks HP may have offered $800 million for the place before it IPO’d two years ago.
